On Thursday, May 15, senior lacrosse captain Megan Rotzler played in her final regular-season game against Riverside High School. She ended the night with two goals, two assists, five ground balls and one caused turnover, a perfect representation of her dominant high school career.
Rotzler has been playing lacrosse for seven years and has been a part of the girls varsity lacrosse team for all four years of her high school career, two of which she served as captain. Rotzler is known for being a fierce player, commanding action on the lacrosse field and, this year, leading the team to a successful 12-4 record.
Lacrosse has been a constant in Rotzler’s life, teaching her countless lessons but additionally creating lasting friendships.
“Lacrosse has heavily impacted my life, as it’s a huge part of my present and soon my future,” Rotzler said. “Many of my closest friendships have come from lacrosse.”
Rotzler has racked up numerous achievements as a token of her hard work and leadership. She reached a celebratory 100 career goals during her junior year and has received several all-district and all-region recognitions throughout her four years on the team, the highest of which would be 1st team all-district midfield in her sophomore season.
“My favorite achievement is reaching 100 goals against John Champe,” Rotzler said, “It took a lot of practice and extra time to be able to execute as a long term goal.”
Rotzler’s determination and dedication to the sport has led to her commitment to play Division III lacrosse at Christopher Newport University (CNU). To prepare to play at the collegiate level, Rotzler has been focusing on the continuation of her game by training throughout the season both during team activities and on her own.
“To prepare for CNU, I’ve been honing in on my stick work and strength training by attending strength classes, running, and working on my CNU workout packet,” Rotzler said.
Although she will be moving on to playing lacrosse in college, Rotzler will always remember the memories that she has made throughout her time on the Stone Bridge team. With an optimistic playoff push on the horizon, Rotzler looks to cement her legacy as a Bulldog by lifting up the teammates she leads.
“The thing I’ll miss the most about Stone Bridge Lacrosse is our post-game hangouts,” Rotzler said, “Specifically, all the laughs and inside jokes that bring our team closer together.”
