A New Year for Competitive Cheer

The competitive cheer team’s season has come to an end with fall winding down as well.

Contrary to what most people think, competitive cheer is different from regular sideline cheerleading. They travel to different places and compete against rival cheer teams. They participated in five competitions this season and placed well in all of them.

Ms. Kristin Julia Thompson is the cheer team’s head coach and works hard to train the team to be active competitors in the cheerleading competitions.

“I love cheer in general but there is something about competing against other teams that I just love,” senior Rachelanne Hall said. Hall is a main base on the varsity cheerleading team.

She points to a new attitude as a primary factor.

“I feel that this year we did a lot better than last year, due to our amazing coaches, Hall said. “They really motivated us and made this season very fun.”

The cheer team placed 2nd at Park View High School, 4th place at the Spirit Bowl, 5th at Mini Districts, 4th at District Competition, and 4th at the Regional Competition. They had their last competition Saturday, Oct. 27 at John Champe High School.
