The Varsity Golf season ended on Sep. 12 with the team placing 8th in Districts.  Coach Mark Mjoness called this a rebuilding year and pointed out that the team racked up 18 birdies this season.

Junior Paul Thoppil ended the season with the best 18 hole round. He shot a 78 on the par 71 at the 1757 Golf Course for the first of two mini-districts. This tournament was held on Aug. 7.

“I want us to go to States next year,” Thoppil said, echoing Coach Mjoness ideas about this being a rebuilding a year.  Thoppil also had the best 9- and 18-hole average for all of the tournaments.

The best 9-hole match was played by Ethan McCray who shot a 39 on the 36 par front nine at the Belmont Country Club on Aug. 16, against Rock Ridge High School.

“There’s nothing more satisfying than a great shot,” team captain and senior Justin Lisciandro said.

Lisciandro’s score averaged 42.8 on the 9 hole and 88.2 on the 18 hole. He also explained that the Varsity Golf team is a great experience for anyone who is interested in a competitive and small varsity sport.
