The Choir and Theater Departments are bringing their third annual production fundraiser of “Popping onto Broadway” to the stage, and for the first time, the lineup will feature two dazzling nights of staff and student performers. The performances will include a variety of solo and ensemble performances of Broadway songs and popular music.
For the past two months, a selection of students and faculty members have been preparing for this upcoming event. Their enthusiasm shines through in their passion and dedication to the last Choir production of the year.
“It’s a fun experience,” senior and choir co-president Emma Kleinhans said. “We sound good. There are a lot of performances, and there’s food and things, so it’s fun for everyone.”
Being involved in many Theater and Choir events this year, including a lead role in the highly received production of “Fiddler on the Roof,” Kleinhans has chosen to perform a song from Bring It On titled “One Perfect Moment”.
“It’s a fun song,” Kleinhans said. “It’s really fun to sing, and I think it’s a good senior solo.”
Fun is the theme of “Popping onto Broadway”, as the night provides an opportunity for student and staff performers who are not usually in the spotlight to present their favorite songs for friends and family without the stress of a more formal show. The performance also allows for seniors to have a chance for a last hurrah production with a more laid back environment in comparison to other shows.
“Some people think Choir is too cool,” senior and choir co-president Junior Reynolds said. “They might get scared about how serious it is, but this is just a fun concert and it’s not as serious.”
The teacher performances are highly anticipated and bring an additional entertaining aspect to the show. Staff members including Mr. Faul, Ms. Marks, Ms. Graves, and Mrs. Gloe will all be performing. Many of these teachers do not teach subjects pertaining to Choir and Theater, which adds to the can’t-miss allure of the production.
“I’m really excited for Ms. Marks,” Kleinhans said. “She’s performing a song with her husband while playing guitar, and they are a fun duo.”
For anyone looking for a chance to watch their teachers perform and experience an easy-going side of Choir and Theater, this show offers the perfect opportunity.
“It’s entertaining,” Kleinhans said. “I think it’s just a fun experience, especially if you have nothing to do for a Friday or Saturday night.”
