Cards for Cause is a club that meets on Gray Club Days in room 603 to send out uplifting letters of support to people in our community.
Every meeting, each club member creates a handwritten letter to be sent to an organization or group of people for that week. Each letter contains kind, heartfelt words to uplift those who are going through hard times or just needing a pocket of peace for the day.
“Our goal is to spread positivity into the world by making personal connections through handwritten letters,” co-president Hannah Skemp said. “Something small such as a letter can brighten someone’s day and make them feel heard. Small actions can make a big difference in people’s lives.”
This idea for a club has appealed to many students around school, resulting in a record-breaking number of members joining with each meeting. Not only that, but the school’s newly implemented “club days” have also allowed Cards for Cause to gain new members as well.
“We have definitely had a bigger turnout with the introduction of club days at Stone Bridge,” social media manager Lilly Romito said. ”Some of our club days have been totally packed. Oftentimes last year there would only be a few people at each meeting, so it’s really great to see so many people getting involved and making it possible to spread so much love.”
Since its creation in 2020, Cards for Cause has branched out of its classroom to other clubs around school which has only supported it more. This is all thanks to its members.
“The best part about students impacting this club is not just that they’re participating,” Skemp said. ”But other groups at our school like DECA’s Think Pink group have wanted to collaborate with us which resulted in even more people getting involved and our connections to grow as we advertised for Breast Cancer Awareness month.”
Cards for Cause has wasted no time to send out lots of encouraging letters to many different organizations this year. These places include the patients and nurses at St Jude’s Hospital, Loudoun Breast Health Network, Veterans, Local Firefighters, and our school’s custodial staff.
“The mission is to be able to uplift people that may be struggling or that we just want to show love to,” Romito said. “Especially with how digital our generation has become, I feel like it’s always great to receive something handmade because it shows that the other person truly cares, and of course we want the people on the receiving end to feel that they are cared about.”
So far, Cards for Cause has made a positive impact on Stone Bridge, and it seems that it’s here to stay. Its doors are always open to those looking to inspire people and bring light to even the darkest situations.
“Our motto is: ‘Leave here a better person,’” English teacher and club sponsor Tanner McClelland said. “And if you want to leave here a better person, then you should join Cards for Cause.”
