Valentines for Stone Bridge

Love is in the air! All over the hallways, SCA hung paper hearts with each student and staff member’s name, covering the school in pink and red.

Members of SCA wanted a fun and inclusive way to celebrate the Valentine’s holiday. Each of the 1,918 hearts were traced and hand cut by the SCA staff.

“We split up into groups and as a whole we spent a few days cutting out and writing names onto the hearts,” SCA member Jaidya Felton said. “We wanted everyone in the school to feel included and get people in the mood for Valentine’s Day.”

This project was months in the making, and the idea was inspired by a convention SCA attended in the fall. The heart decorations were planned to go up for the holiday of love to spread some much needed late-winter excitement.

“The goal was to identify every kid and make them feel seen and heard.” SCA Sponsor Charlotte Ratcliff said.

As students and staff arrived to school, they were able to hunt for their hearts and have a reason to smile before class.

“I really liked coming to school and seeing the hallway filled with hearts with my friends’ names and then finally finding my name knowing that someone handmade my heart just for me.” Sophomore Julia Goodfriend said.

SCA’s initiative to make all the students of Stone Bridge feel supported brightened the day of numerous students and staff on Valentine’s Day.

“I was surprised at first because I didn’t realize this was being done.” English teacher Kevin Winsheimer said.“But I thought it was really cool because I found myself looking for other people that I knew, both students and staff. I was very excited when I found mine. It was nice to see someone went out of their way to acknowledge myself and others,”
