Making the Most of Fall

Fall has finally arrived. As the leaves change color and the weather becomes cooler and Halloween quickly approaches there are many activities to be done.

Get up in the morning and go to the Farmers and Artisans market, open Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in One Loudoun. Buy some produce and other fresh homemade items and use it to make lunch or dinner.

Speaking of produce, it’s apple season. Go apple picking with family or friends at Stribling Orchard open Thursday-Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Use the apples to bake a pie. Add some more snacks and sweets and you could have a scary movie night with some friends. No movie ideas? No problem, Freeform (previously known as ABC Family) has you covered with their 31 nights of Halloween.

Need help getting into the spooky spirit? Cox Farms has the best of both worlds. Located in Centreville, VA, By day it’s a family friendly environment with games, magical forest walks, cute farm animals like, pigs and goats, that can be touched and fed, and a pumpkin patch- a great location for Instagram worthy fall pictures. Pick out a pumpkin, take it home and carve a face or image into it. Stencils and kits are available at Walmart or Target but you can always free hand it if you’d like, just be careful. And don’t throw away the pumpkin seeds either. rinse them off, season them, and roast them for a delicious fall snack.

By night Cox Farms transforms into a Fright Night. Get a group of friends and prepared to scared, possibly, to death with the fields of fear- your biggest fear could be lurking at every turn. Don’t forget to go on a haunted hayride where zombies and creepy clowns run rampant.

Haunted houses are more your style? Try the Paxton Manor Shocktober in Leesburg, open every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday during the month of October.

Even though Halloween falls on a weekday this year there are tons of fun things to do the weekend before.

On Oct. 27, for the little ones, take them trick or treating at Dulles Town Center for Mall-o-ween.

For the athletes, there’s a Ghost, Goblins, and Ghouls 5k that night as well. Get your run and scare on with family or friends.

The autumn season promises to be filled with fun, but the leaves fall just as fast as the season goes.
